Campus Update | School Reopens Wednesday, August 19
Following several days of restoration, cleanup, and preparation across our campus, we are grateful to share that Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi will resume school tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19, with normal class, bus transportation, and activity schedules.
Our teams have closely reviewed campus conditions and storm impacts that could affect our ʻohana and staff. Based on the information available to us today, we are prepared to safely welcome our haumāna back to campus.
BUS TRANSPORTATION
Regular bus service will resume tomorrow according to the bus schedule, with adjustments in Kaʻū due to ongoing road closures. Two Kaʻū buses will operate until further notice, serving the following stops and times:
1st Kaʻū Bus (traveling via Saddle Road and Daniel K. Inouye Hwy)
2nd Kaʻū Bus (regular schedule)
For ‘ohana in areas currently affected by road closures in Kaʻū, haumāna who are able to safely reach either the Ocean View Park & Ride or Volcano Store stop may board the bus at those locations.
Please remain aware of road conditions in your area and use caution when commuting to and from campus.
Although school is reopening, we understand that hardships continue across Hawaiʻi Island, particularly in the south part of our island where communities like Ocean View, Waiʻōhinu, Nāʻālehu, and Pāhala are navigating significant challenges from the stormʻs aftermath. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the ʻohana and communities affected.
If storm impacts may affect your keiki’s return to school, please reach out to your child’s school administrator.

MONDAY, AUGUST 17
Campus Update | No School Tuesday, August 18
Recovery efforts continued across Hawaiʻi Island today following the Lala storm system. While conditions are improving in many areas, some communities continue to face significant impacts, road closures, and other disruptions.
To give our 'ohana and staff additional time to address these impacts, and to give county and state crews time to continue restoration efforts, Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi will remain closed tomorrow, Tuesday, August 18, in alignment with announcements from the Governor and Hawaiʻi County Mayor regarding continued school closures across the island.
We recognize that another school closure requires additional adjustments for our ʻohana, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding.
We will share our next campus status update by Tuesday afternoon regarding Wednesday, August 19.
We know that for many, the impacts of the Lala storm system will be felt for some time. If your ʻohana is experiencing storm-related circumstances that may affect your keiki, or if there are ways we may be able to kōkua, please reach out to your child’s school administrator.

Weather Update | No School Monday, August 17
The severe weather brought significant impacts to parts of Hawaiʻi Island; our hearts are with the ʻohana and communities affected, and we are grateful for the many ways people are extending their kōkua and aloha to one another.
Today, we conducted an assessment of campus conditions. We approach every decision with the safety and well-being of our haumāna, staff, ʻohana, and kauhale as our highest priority, followed by the care and safety of our place.
Based on that assessment, there will be no school tomorrow, Monday, August 17 — Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi will remain closed, with all activities canceled.
While our campus did not sustain significant physical damage, power and internet service remain unavailable, and restoration may take additional time. We are also continuing to assess road closures and conditions across the island that may impact safe travel to and from campus.
We hope conditions will improve and critical utilities will be restored to campus by tomorrow. We will provide an additional update on Monday afternoon to confirm whether school will re-open on Tuesday, August 18.
We appreciate everyone's patience, understanding, and partnership as our kaiāulu recovers from the storm. We know recovery will look different across our island, and our thoughts remain with all those navigating its impacts.

Weather Update | Reminder: Early Release and Modified Bus Schedule Today
As we prepare for changing weather conditions due to Tropical Storm Lala, we wanted to share a reminder that Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi will have an early release today, Friday, August 14, at the following dismissal times:

Weather Update: Schedule Adjustments due to Tropical Storm Lala
The safety and well-being of our haumāna, staff, ʻohana, and kauhale remain our highest priority. As we continue to monitor Tropical Storm Lala, with its potential impacts to Hawaiʻi Island anticipated to begin Friday evening, we are making several safety adjustments to campus operations.
Based on the latest updates from Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense and Kamehameha Schools leadership, Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha ma Hawaiʻi will remain open tomorrow (Friday), August 14, with the following early release times:
