Thirty-nine haumāna from all three Kamehameha Schools campuses were selected as Hawai‘i Region winners for the 2019 Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards – a national competition for students in grades 7-12.

This year, KS students received five Gold Key awards, 13 Silver Key awards, and 21 honorable mentions.

All regional winners and their entries will be recognized at a ceremony held at the Hawai‘i State Art Museum on March 16.

Students receiving a Gold Key award will move on to compete with the country’s best for a chance to be recognized as a national medalist at Carnegie Hall in New York in June.

As a national medalist, students are eligible to earn over $250,000 in post-high scholarships, as well as have their winning entry displayed at the Art.Write.Now.2019 National Exhibition in New York this summer.

Historically, the competition receives over 350,000 entries in 29 categories. Award winners are selected by a panel made up of industry experts on both the regional and national levels.
