Centered on the theme of “Embracing the Past While Envisioning our Future,” Kamehameha Schools Maui recently launched Hikina Rising – a podcast to help young alumni make the transition to their post-secondary endeavors.

Produced monthly by the high school’s staff with assistance from students, the podcast serves as an extension of the campus’ Post-High Counseling Department by featuring alumni, students, staff and faculty discussing topics ranging from balancing school and sports as a college athlete to goal-setting and planning for a professional career. The podcast also features a mixture of lighthearted talk-story sessions about memorable events like Founder’s Day to help out-of-state alumni cope with being away from home.

Hikina Rising joins the Ka Piko Podcast as the second offering from KS – taking advantage of this growing medium that allows our constituents to connect with us on their digital devices at their convenience.

On a recent Hikina Rising podcast, KS Maui alumni Keoni Wong KSM’06, Bryan Pali KSM’08, Makana Pundyke KSM’12 and Kalei Guth KSM’11 joined math kumu Kaholo Rickard and world history kumu Kevin O’Brien to discuss their experiences as college athletes and what it took to be successful on and off the field.
