On September 24, 2016, Kamehameha Schools Maui 4th graders helped Maui Nui Botanical Gardens harvest, catalog and photograph 'uala (sweet potato).  Much of their work will help other scientific research in the State.  “Aloha kākou teachers and parents of Kamehameha 4th graders, Thank you for coming and working in the heat this Saturday! Your students had great attitudes and I enjoyed meeting all of you.  The ‘uala varieties harvested that day were mostly collected in the early 70’s from Hawaiian homesteads and there is a lot of interest in untangling their origins. Your photographs will be shared with botanists and researchers on other Hawaiian islands.”  Tamara, MNB Director.  Maui Nui Botanical Gardens is a non-profit organization dedicated to cultural preservation and education.  This was a new event, sponsored by the Parent Teacher Student 'Ohana (PTSO) led by 4th grade parent Nalani Cagasan.
