Kumulāʻau Sing Jr., a Hawaiian cultural resource teacher based in the Kaʻiwakīloumoku Hawaiian Cultural Center at KS Kapālama, participated in the three-week-long Council of Indigenous Peoples of Taiwan earlier this month. Sing Jr. along with his wife and fellow educator May Haunani Balino-Sing interacted with participants from Aotearoa, Solomon Islands, Philippines, Guam, Marshall Islands, Palau, Nauru, Kiribati and Taiwan. The “life-changing learning experience” helped indigenous practitioners collaborate throughout an array of platforms including different weaving styles of the Taiwanese tribes.
