The KS Kapālama boys and girls wrestling teams dominated the mat and came up golden in the ring en route to claiming their respective HHSAA Texaco Hawai'i Wrestling State Championships Thursday night at the Blaisdell Arena. The boys posted a winning margin of 228.5-154.5 over runner-up Punahou, while the girls bested Baldwin, 219-172.5.
Brant Porter (120 lbs.) and Kysen Terukina (126 lbs.) claimed individual gold in the boys competition along with Darius Mynar (195 lbs.) from KS Maui, while Alana Vivas (117 lbs.), Ashley Gooman (122 lbs.) and Paige Respicio (138 lbs.) from the Kapālama squad won their divisions in the girls bracket.
Overall, 30 student-athletes from Kapālama, Maui and KS Hawai‘i finished in sixth place or better in their weight classes, including eight silver medalists. The state championship trophies represent the sixth and third titles for the KS Kapālama boys and girls programs.
