A collection of student-athletes from KS Kapālama enjoyed a golden moment on Saturday as both the boys paddling team and girls soccer team claimed Hawai‘i High School Athletic Association state championships in their respective sports.

On Saturday afternoon, the KSK boys outrigger canoe paddling team claimed the Hawaiian Airlines State Canoe Paddling Championship by a razor-thin 0.32-second margin over ILH rival Punahou at Ke‘ehi Lagoon. It’s the seventh state title secured by the Kapālama boys since the state regatta was launched in 2002.

Later that evening, the KSK girls soccer team secured its ninth Queen’s Medical Center Soccer State Championship in program history with a 1-0 victory over Campbell at Waipi‘o Peninsula Soccer Complex. Leah Feato’s goal in the 33rd minute was the difference as the Warriors made it through the Division I tourney without allowing a goal, and outscored opponents by a combined margin of 10-0.

Also on Saturday, the girls from KS Hawai‘i finished second in the Division II soccer tourney, while KS Maui claimed third and seventh in the mixed and girls paddling events.
