Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Kula Waena haumāna Kama Angell, Tau
Purcell, Kaeo Nouchi, and Jonnovyn Sniffen can add the title of world
champions to their budding athletic resumes.
The
group, along with fellow members of the Honolulu Little League team,
powered their way to earn the 2022 Little League Baseball World Series
(LLWS) title Sunday afternoon, defeating Curacao 13-3 in Williamsport,
Pa.
Dubbed by national media outlets as one of the most dominating
teams in LLWS history, the boys in blue and gold let their numbers
speak for themselves. Representing the United States West region and the
state of Hawaiʻi, the team had a dominant run in the 20-team
tournament, outscoring opponents 60-5 and finishing undefeated at 6-0
overall. A win over Tennessee in the United States title game on
Saturday propelled Hawaiʻi to capture its fourth title in 17 years and
second since 2018.
In Sunday’s championship game, Hawaiʻi was
already up 12-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning. Angell sealed the
deal with a shot to left field with two players on base, finishing the
day at four-for-four with a homer and six RBIs. By LLWS rules, the game
ended following Angell’s play by virtue of Hawaiʻi having a 10-run lead.
KS Kapālama Poʻo Kula Dr. Taran Chun KSK’95, Kula Waena Poʻo Kumu Kula Gaughen-Haili, and Director of Athletics and Human Performance Rob Hesia
were onsite Monday at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport to welcome
the world champions home, along with members of 2018 championship team,
now KSK Kula Kiʻekiʻe haumāna. They included juniors Aukai Kea, Bruce
Boucher and Jace Souza; and seniors John Nainoa de la Cruz, Ka‘olu Holt
and Caleb Okada.
The newly crowned champions were honored by KSK staff and students Thursday during an on-campus pep rally at Kūnuiākea Stadium.

With the passing of the torch, members of the 2018 Little League World Series championship team, now KS Kapālama Kula Kiʻekiʻe haumāna, joined KSK leadership in welcoming the next generation of champions home Monday at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. They include juniors Aukai Kea, Bruce Boucher and Jace Souza; and seniors John Nainoa de la Cruz, Ka‘olu Holt and Caleb Okada.
