EDUCATION

  • Kamehameha Schools students visit Taiwan tribe (Hawaii News Now)
    Sixteen Kamehameha Schools students and their kumu traveled to Taiwan, forging connections with the Kaviyangan Paiwan tribe and other Indigenous groups. Students danced hula on stage at the Austronesian Joint Harvest Festival in Hualien County, Taiwan, for an estimated audience of more than 10,000 people.
     
  • State is banking on charter schools to help expand Hawaiʻi’s free preschool (Honolulu Civil Beat)
    Hawaiʻi’s first-ever charter preschool is slated to open in Kapolei next month, amid a push to utilize the charter system to increase access to early learning in the state. The preschool’s four classrooms were developed with support from KS Kaiāulu.

  • OHA Kakaʻako Makai housing bill advances (Honolulu Star-Advertiser)
    Hawai‘i Senate committees advanced a bill allowing housing on OHA land in Kaka‘ako, with provisions preventing Kamehameha Schools from developing housing in the same area. The bill includes affordability measures and requires an environmental impact statement.
