The air was electric this past Saturday as 8 teams competed in the First Lego League Lego Robotics Maui District Tournament for a chance to advance to regionals in Oahu. KS represented with four teams: the AquaBots, LeGhosts, Tako Tech, and the Wailuku Warriors.

This year's tournament champ was the Wailuku Warriors who will be advancing to Oahu for regionals. Team members are Jaxson & Jayden Pahukula, Aimi Sakamoto, Jonah Salomon and Kaena Kehano. KS elementary school's Tako Tech and KS middle school's AquaBots will be also be advancing to the next round on Oahu as well. Congrats and best of luck to all of our teams! Winners of regionals will compete in the finals round at Legoland California.

This season's theme was Hydro Dynamics. Teams spent the last few months working on an innovative project to improve and solve problems in the human water cycle, and also worked on programming Lego EV3 robots to accomplish predefined missions. Missions included tasks like flushing a Lego toilet, moving a water well, replacing pipes and more with their programmed robots. All of the missions had to be completed in two and a half minutes where the best score out of three rounds counted towards final standings. Not only were teams graded on their projects, and programming of their robots, they were also graded on their teamworking abilities. Teams were observed by judges while completing a team based activity to observe how members interacted with one another. Overall, the entire experience leading up to the contest provided an excellent opportunity to learn about: programmings, automation, robotics, solving complex problems, and teamwork.
