KS creates dynamic new Hawaiian language GIFs

Feb. 1, 2023

The Kamehameha Schools Communications and Hawaiian Language Advancement teams collaborated to create more than 20 new ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i GIFs and stickers to help users express themselves online, just in time for Mahina ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i – Hawaiian Language Month. The dynamic images add to the more than 50 ‘ōlelo Hawai‘i GIFs created by the team in 2022.

“Last year’s Mahina ‘Ōlelo Hawai‘i GIFs were very successful,” said Senior Multimedia Content Specialist Jacob Chinn, who was on the image creation team. “It was very fulfilling seeing not just our staff using them, but also students and members of the community. So when Keoni (Kelekolio) asked if we could make more gifs this year I jumped at the chance!”

Director of Hawaiian Language Advancement Keoni Kelekolio is grateful for the kākou effort.

“As we begin Mahina ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi, I’d like to offer a heartfelt mahalo to all our hoahana that continue to apply our cultural teachings and increase the use of ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi in our shared workspaces in big and small ways,” he said. “E ola ka ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi!”
