Congratulations are in order for the KS Communications Group as a number of their projects were deemed winners at the recently held Public Relations Society of Hawaiʻi Koa Anvil Awards.

Taking home a Koa Hammer Award in the “Creative Tactics” category was “A Lei for Every Kumu,” which helped celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week in 2017.

Led by Senior PR Strategy Consultant Elizabeth Ahana, the project entailed assembling more than 250 volunteers from Kamehameha’s corporate headquarters at Kawaiahaʻo Plaza who over a five-day period made lei for all campus and preschool teachers to show them how much their work as faculty is truly appreciated by their colleagues.

A Koa Anvil Award of Excellence was presented in the “Issues Management: Associations/Non-Profit Organizations” category for the handling of the Keauhou Beach Hotel demolition project, led by Senior Communications Strategy Consultant Crystal Kua.

Judges cited the strong community outreach that kept the community informed and aware of the project and lauded the more than a dozen feature placements across Hawai‘i’s premier news outlets, strategically selected to influence the priority key audiences for this campaign.

Another Koa Anvil Award of Excellence went to the “Kanaka Leaders Campaign,” led by Senior Communications Strategy Consultant Chad Takatsugi and Digital Innovation Manager Andreas Arvman, in the “Social Media: Photo-Based Marketing Program” category.

The campaign articulated two desired outcomes: to increase understanding and agreement that a strong cultural identity is an advantage for Native Hawaiians in life and career; and to position Kamehameha Schools as a leader in the conversation of Native Hawaiian leadership for the future.

The “Kanaka Leaders Campaign” was also honored by “Pacific Edge” magazine at the magazine’s recently held Eighth Annual Business Achievement Awards. The project was honored with the “Best Social Media Campaign Award.”
