Vice President of Communications and Chief Communications Officer Kevin N. Cockett joins Kamehameha Schools in June 2015.
He is a 1984 graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama and a 23-year veteran of the communications profession. His career includes executive and management roles within corporate and agency settings, including Fortune 100 and publicly-traded companies, as well as being a business owner – Cockett Communications, Inc. – established in 2011.
Cockett has experience working with the Native Hawaiian community, most recently as part of a consultant team that worked with the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in its master planning efforts for Kakaʻako Ma kai, specifically regarding OHA’s community engagement.
He also works with the Native Hawaiian Legal Corporation on various communications and outreach initiatives, and in 2014, Cockett was on the consultant team that facilitated community meetings by the U.S. Department of Interior as it sought input from Native Hawaiians about the possibility of establishing an administrative rule to provide the process for federal recognition of a Native Hawaiian government.
Cockett was senior vice president of the Media/Corporate Communications Group of Communications Pacific from June 2008 to December 2010, and vice president of the same group from 2006 to 2008. Prior to his work at CommPac, Cockett was a public relations manager for Best Buy Co., Inc. in Richfield, Minnesota. He also worked for Minneapolis investment bank RBC Dain Rauscher/RBC Capital Markets from January 1994 to December 2003.
Cockett has an MBA in marketing and strategic management from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and a BA in journalism from the University of Minnesota School of Journalism.
He is a board member of Abilities Unlimited and the Historic Hawai’i Foundation; a member of the Native Hawaiian Chamber of Commerce, and is a youth ministry group leader at Unified Church in Pālolo.
