Keauhou Lane – a multi-family affordable residential project in Our Kaka‘ako – recently received a platinum designation by LEED – Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. It is the first multi-family project on O‘ahu to earn the distinction.
LEED designation is the international mark of excellence for green building, and the platinum level represents its highest level of excellence. National real estate developer Gerding Edlen built Keauhou Place – a six-story, 209-unit kama‘āina housing rental project on KS land.
“Having the right partner who shares our values of kuleana for the land, our ʻāina, that is such an intricate part of who KS is,” said KS Planning and Development Director, Paul Kay.
Keauhou Lane’s green features include a 58-panel solar hot water system providing 40 percent of the building’s hot water demand; landscaping with low-water, native plants and efficient irrigation; and a feature that allows 100 percent of the building’s storm water to be infiltrated on-site through an underground network of drywells and piping.
The project also included Energy Star-rated appliances and non-toxic finishes including paints, adhesives and sealants.
