Kalani Da Bat Strikes Again!

Oct. 26, 2018

Contributed by Thomas Jones

Kamehamemeha middle school students visited Kamehameha elementary school students in search of the infamous Kalani (Da Bat). MS haumāna shared an informative presentation on bat ecology with their protégés. Not only did ES haumāna learn about echolocation and threats to the bats, they also paired up with MS mentors and ventured outside in search of invisible bat markers on campus. The markers were made with hydrophobic paint that repelled water as the ground surrounding it got wet. The result was Kalani Da Batʻs signature revealing itself on the ground. Afterwards ES students conducted a reflection on all activities and the things they learned with their MS mentors.
