The junior class picked up four awards at the 96th Annual Kamehameha Schools Song Contest Friday night at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
The theme of this year’s event was: ʻO Hawaiʻi Kuʻu Kulāiwi, Songs of my beloved homeland.
The junior class picked up awards for outstanding use of Hawaiian language, and top musical performance. The juniors also won the boys competition and the combined class award. The outstanding student director awards went to ʻElia Akaka (sophomore combined class) and Mikayla Ah Sam (senior girls).
KGMB will rebroadcast the song contest on Friday, March 25 beginning at 6:30 p.m. with the preshow followed by the song contest at 7:30 p.m.

The Louise Aoe McGregor Award (outstanding student director): Tie: ʻElia Akaka (Sophomore combined), Mikayla AhSam (Senior girls)
The Richard Lyman, Jr., ‘Ōlelo Makuahine (Mother Tongue) Award (oustanding use of the Hawaiian language): Class of 2017 (Junior combined)
George Alanson Andrus Cup (boys competition): Class of 2017 (Juniors), Josian Kunipo (song director)
New England Mothers’ Cup (girls competition): Class of 2016 (Seniors), Mikayla AhSam (song director)
Helen Desha Beamer Award (outstanding musical performance): Class of 2017 (Junior combined)
Charles Edward King Cup (combined class competition): Class of 2017 (Juniors), Reyn Keanu Ruperti (song director)
