As part of our HCBE curriculum haumāna learned about native vs. invasive and non-native plants and were asked to look for invasive plants around their homes to pick and use for their wreaths. We talked about how we needed to find ways to not only control the growth of these invasive plants, but also use them purposefully. They understood the values that our kupuna instilled in us about taking care of our ʻāina. Students brought in an array of plants to use and got crafty as they created beautiful wreaths. With the extra plants, they were able to gift a few wreaths to other kumu to enjoy.
