Increase consumption of local food in your community

The 4th grade have spent weeks learning about the importance of food sustainability and its possible affects on us here in Maui.  They decided to take action and make a difference.  Each group came up with a solution to the challenge: Increase consumption of local food in your community.  Some groups decided to hand out flyers in their neighborhood with information about the importance of growing food and supporting local farmers, others decided to impact our student body.  Last week Thursday some groups hosted stations that shared the reality of food sustainability on Maui with information.  One station had a petition to support locally grown food, another gave out locally grown treats for students to enjoy.  One group wanted to take the impact a step further and let the students choose from imported candy or locally grown fruits.  This small difference will have a global impact; starting from our 4th graders.
