Hurricane Lowell update #2

Sept. 7, 2026

Ke Kula ‘o Kamehameha preschools and offices on Kaua‘i will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, due to Hurricane Lowell. This decision is intended to provide for the safety of our haumāna, ‘ohana, and employees, and follows state and county government closures. Kaua‘i staff will hear from their respective leaders with further guidance regarding work situations for tomorrow.

All campuses, preschool sites, and offices on O‘ahu, Maui Nui, and Hawai‘i Island will be open tomorrow. Individual Kamehameha sites will communicate directly with their communities any adjustments to operations due to storm conditions.

Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau remain under a Hurricane Warning through tonight and possibly Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service warns that the potential for destructive winds, flash flooding and damaging surf will increase today and peak tonight. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for O‘ahu.

Please take time to prepare and mālama your ‘ohana and communities. We encourage you to review emergency plans, gather essential supplies, and monitor official weather sources. More information and preparedness resources are available through Ready.gov, the Hawai‘i Emergency Management Agency, the National Weather Service, and county emergency management agencies statewide.
