The Hōkūle‘a concluded its three-year Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage around the globe and returned home to Hawai`i. The mission of the Voyage was to spread the message of Mālama Honua by promoting environmental consciousness, fostering learning environments, bringing together island communities and growing a global movement toward a more sustainable world.
With 1,100 students in tow and 200+ faculty and staff, KS Maui lined the rocky shoreline of Honolua Bay to greet the Hōkūle`a. Honolua is where the Hōkūle`a departed for its first maiden voyage to Tahiti in 1976. It also marks the beginning of a 6 month Mahalo tour throughout the state after the vesselʻs 3 year Mālama Honua voyage.
