Kamehameha Schools, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i and Hawai‘i News Now launched HIRING NOW, a partnership program focused on strengthening the state’s economy by providing a forum for local businesses to find and hire employees.

“The biggest challenges our tenants are facing is finding, recruiting, and retaining good team members,” said Haunani Fujimoto, KS director of leasing. “HIRING NOW connects job seekers with job opportunities from our KS agricultural and commercial tenants while helping our communities, businesses, and people recover from the economic hardships caused by this pandemic.”

The KS tenant ‘ohana spans over 2,000 businesses statewide in variety industries. With a focus on industries that support thriving communities, HIRING NOW will feature local businesses and organizations from the industries of food systems, creative industries, education, healthcare, policy and advocacy, skills/trade/vocational, alternative energy and sustainability, and technology.

Now until June 30, 2022, this virtual job fair offers a safe and easy hiring process with an online job board that displays real-time openings from the KS tenant ‘ohana network.

“Finding quality staff is one of the major challenges that most local businesses are facing,” said Sherry Menor-McNamara, executive director at the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i. “The COVID-19 pandemic has made it extremely challenging, but businesses who have adapted to new technology offered by opportunities like HIRING NOW have been able to survive.”

In addition to helping develop and manage the job board, the Chamber of Commerce of Hawai‘i is providing additional support and resources to guide, build, and publish staffing vacancies for participating tenants free of charge.

Seeing the dire need to jump-start the economy and get people back to work, these organizations partnered to make these opportunities possible.

“We’re looking for positive and innovative people who love to work in a fast-paced environment,” said HI News Now General Manager Katie Pickman. “We want to thank Kamehameha Schools for being a supportive landlord and for partnering with the Chamber of Commerce because they realize that finding people is their tenants’ biggest challenge.”

HIRING NOW adds to a number of programs developed and/or sponsored by KS over the past two years to help its tenant ‘ohana survive and thrive during the pandemic.
