Two of our haumāna, senior Kamahaʻo Halemanu and sophomore Wehiwaalani Gapero, host a special student edition of Hawaii News Now's Spotlight Now, which will air on Tuesday, October 29 at 1 p.m. and replay at 7 p.m. on K5.
Ahead of that airing, Kamahaʻo and Wehiwa joined Kainoa Carlson on HINowDaily to preview the two topics they are covering--the outmigration of Native Hawaiians and taking care of loko iʻa as a source of sustainability for our communities--and share more about their experience and the takeaways theyʻll have from being able to share their voices on this platform.
On the topic of outmigration, students were joined by State Representative Kirstin Kahaloa and UH professor Dr. Kamana Beamer. For loko iʻa, they were joined by Kumuola Marine Science Education Center director Luke Mead, KSH junior and Kumuola student research aide Kamalu Abe, and Alex Connelly from Kuaʻāina Ulu ʻAuamo (KUA).
Kamahaʻo and Wehiwa did interview prep and devised the questions of each guest to put together this special edition of Spotlight Now. Watch it live Tuesday, or see it on-demand after it airs on the Hawaii News Now website.
Mahalo to everyone involved in front of and behind the scenes to put this Spotlight Now together.
