Darrell Hamamura has been promoted to director of Enterprise Information Management and Services (EIMS), a newly created position within Kamehameha Schools’ Administration Group. Hamamura previously served as senior manager for Endowment Information Management and Services.

In his role as EIMS director, Hamamura oversees three departments: Land Information Management Services, along with two newly created units – Enterprise Information Management Program and Enterprise Document and Records Management. Together, the EIMS team is responsible for KS data management, governance, and quality.

Hamamura’s kuleana includes establishing a centralized enterprise information management function responsible for documenting standards, clear processes, and partner agreements. Also included in his list of duties, is the creation of an information management framework, which will drive strategic outcomes and realign KS’ risk posture.

“As an organization, KS has experienced significant growth in business-related information that it generates and has the kuleana to house and keep secure,” Hamamura said. “Our goal in EIMS is to integrate and standardize systems, data and information across the organization.

“We hope, that to the extent possible, those tasks will also be accomplished with key, collective impact-partner organizations and other entities focused on Lāhui Hawaiʻi, as doing so will better support real-time business analytics and management reporting.”

Speaking on information governance, Hamamura notes that it will be accomplished via a kākou effort as many organizational disciplines will be charged with recognizing information as a strategic asset and assist in the breakdown of existing information archiving.

“EIMS will also provide organized, consistent, secure and accessible content to those individuals who are empowered with the authority, accountability and decision rights for the proper control and oversight of enterprise information assets,” Hamamura said. “Our unit will work to eliminate redundancy in data and processes while enabling the lineage of information assets across KS’ applications portfolio.”

Hamamura joined KS in 1993, as a systems analyst within the Information Technology Division. He spent 12 years with ITD, serving as supervisor along with various management positions before joining the Endowment Group in 2005. While in Endowment, Hamamura was manager of Land Information Management and Services along with senior manager of Endowment Information Management and Services.

An Aiea High School graduate, Hamamura earned a bachelor of business administration in business management and management information systems from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa.

In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family, friends and exploring the outdoors.
