First Grade helping native plant populations!

Dec. 6, 2017

Contributed by Kristen Purdy

In science today, both first grade classes listened to a presentation by Andrea Buckman, from Leeward Haleakala Watershed Restoration Partnership. They learned about the importance of protecting native plant and animal populations in Hawai’i. Students got the opportunity to hear about species that have gone extinct and understand the importance of protecting the wonderful species we have left here in Maui. In science, first graders have been learning about plant and animal partnerships throughout the ahupua’a. This experience gave them an opportunity to help make a difference in aiding in the success of some of those native species that make their home so special!
