Throughout the Hōkūleʻa Worldwide Voyage, students, staff and alumni have been blessed with many opportunities to grow into leadership roles, representing the Hawaiian community and sharing the global message of Mālama Honua here locally and abroad. Kamehameha Schools is proud to be the education sponsor of the Hōkūleʻa Worldwide Voyage.

The Polynesian Voyaging Society (PVS) along with Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage partners will be hosting a Mālama Honua Fair & Summit as part of the Hōkūleʻa Homecoming festivities. The summit will take place from June 18-20 at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center.

The summit is an opportunity for local and global partners working to advance the mission of Mālama Honua to gather for a three-day summit to discuss actions inspired by the Voyage and the development of the next sail plans for Hawaiʻi’s communities. The event will include an inspirational speaker series, a community fair with educational exhibits and activities, canoe tours, and a youth summit track.

As the education sponsor of the worldwide voyage, Kamehameha Schools is coordinating the education pavilion at the event. This will include educational exhibits and demonstrations from the University of Hawaiʻi College of Education, Hawaiʻi Department of Education and various Hawaiʻi independent schools.

KS and Kanaeokana students, teachers, and staff with a connection to the voyage or with project that relate to the Mālama Honua message are encouraged to participate in the event as exhibitors.

To participate, fill out this short an simple form by April 15, 2017.

The exhibition space is envisioned as a place where members of the community can walk through and learn about the work of organizations and individuals to mālama lands, oceans, people and communities. Exhibits can relate to voyaging, ʻāina, sustainability, global communities, culture-based education, and Hawaiian language, history and culture. A wide range of topics are welcomed.

The event will take place at the Hawaiʻi Convention Center and various table configurations (e.g. 3’x3’ and 3’x6’), open spaces, and audio/visual equipment can be made available for a variety of presentations and formats.

Exhibitors do not need to attend the summit or be present for all three days if scheduling doesn’t allow it. Take a look at more FAQs and information about the summit or contact Jordann Ares at joares@ksbe.edu for more information. Sign-up by April 15.

The Mālama Honua Worldwide Fair and Summit is one of a series of events celebrating Hōkūleʻa's homecoming. The homecoming celebration will begin with Hōkūleʻa's historic arrival at Magic Island on Saturday, June 17, which will be followed by a cultural ceremony and community hoʻolauleʻa.  On Monday, June 19, PVS will hold a benefit dinner to raise funds to support programs that will continue to advance the mālama honua mission. The event will feature dinner, entertainment, and a silent auction and will honor the foundational supporters of the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage including Mark Dunkerley and Hawaiian Airlines, Bert Kobayashi and the Kobayashi Group, and Jack Wong and Kamehameha Schools.
