Testing will allow for a more information on how COVID-19 is impacting our campus community, as we look to expand opportunities to be on-campus for our haumāna.

Drive-thru COVID-19 pop-up testing available on-campus

Nov. 10, 2020

With the uncertainty of COVID-19 and hearing public health experts remind us that this virus will continue to impact our lives for a while, providing more opportunities to know and understand how this virus is impacting you is important to us. For social interactions to happen safely, knowing is better than not.

Kamehameha Schools recognizes an opportunity to provide additional access to testing and get a better sense of the ways in which COVID-19 is impacting our campus community. By offering testing, families can know sooner, whether or not they are affected and be able to act sooner to care for those around them.

As mentioned in the message from Poʻo Kula Naeʻole-Wong, we are adding COVID-19 testing to our safety protocols. Our first community pop-up session will happen next week and the week after and you can register to participate.

COVID-19 POP-UP TESTING

We will be offering free, voluntary drive-thru COVID-19 testing on-campus. The testing is conducted by Project Vision Hawaiʻi who will administer a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT), also known as the PCR test. This test is included on the trusted testing partners list and may be used for inter-island travel. Taking the test will not prevent you from being on-campus (as long as results are negative), as adjustments have been made to the wellness check and KS-sponsored testing events are exempted.

Project Vision Hawaiʻi has also prepared a frequently asked questions sheet for more information, with some details of what you can expect. The test is a nasal swab. You will be swabbed in your nasal-pharyngeal cavity for about 10 seconds, each nostril. Test results are emailed to you by S&G Labs, within a day after the test without any unforeseen delays.

The on-campus testing is available to:

  • Kamehameha Schools students and immediate family members
  • Kamehameha Schools faculty and staff and their immediate family members

Register in advance for either testing session offered this month.

Additional details will be sent to registered participants prior to the testing date. Accomodations can be made for ʻohana with keiki in multiple grade levels if the preference is to come at one time. If there are any questions about these tests, please email kshawaii@ksbe.edu.

FREE FLU SHOTS ALSO AVAILABLE THIS SATURDAY
Mālama Ola Health Services staff will also offer drive-thru flu shots for haumāna on Saturday, November 21 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Paiʻea Stadium Parking lot. If interested in having your student receive a free flu shot, please RSVP by registering at https://bit.ly/kshnov21flushot. The deadline to register is November 20 by 12:00 p.m. A signed and completed consent form should be brought for your child to receive their flu shot. Download at https://bit.ly/kshflushotconsent.
If there are any questions about the flu shot, call Verna Lau, RN at 982-0611.

The inclusion of more testing will allow us with another layer of information to know how our community is doing and gives us an important data point on which to make decisions for how we can better support our kula.

We are happy to provide these services to our haumāna, hoa kumu and their ʻohana.
