Dr. Scott Parker joined Kamehameha Schools Kapālama High School at the start of the 2014-15 school year, as vice principal for the class of 2015.

He joins KSK high school vice principals Randie-Ann Tang, Hailama Farden and Erin Regua. This is the first school year in which there is one vice principal assigned to each student class.

The new leadership structure will enable each vice principal to remain with a student class through graduation.  Parker will be with the class of 2015 for this school year, then will take on the vice principal duties for the freshman class of 2019 next August.

“Scott has done a wonderful job coming in and hitting the ground running,” says KSK High School Po‘o Kumu (Principal) Julian Ako. “He has found ways to connect with his class early on. He sends weekly emails to keep the seniors updated, went to a bunch of the fall sports and other events, and is a regular at ‘Akahi during the lunch periods, which also helped a lot with the transition with the Flik food service.”

Parker comes to KS Kapālama with experience as both an educational administrator and member of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard. He previously worked as principal at President Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in Waikīkī, managing the full scope of its educational programs. Under his leadership, the school garnered the Department of Education’s Strive HI Award for sustained growth in math and reading.

He also served as an educational officer on the Hawai‘i Teacher Standards Board. As a part-time enlisted member of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard, Dr. Parker serves as a staff sergeant and C-17 loadmaster with the 204th Airlift Squadron stationed at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam.

Parker was born in Wailuku and raised in Makawao, on the island of Maui. He has lived on O‘ahu for the past four years and currently calls the Kapālama Heights area home.

The Maui native earned his bachelors and masters of education degrees from the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa, and received his doctorate degree in education leadership from the University of Southern California.

In his spare time, Parker loves to travel.  His love for flying has taken him to international destinations such as Afghanistan, Hungary, Djibouti-Africa, Germany, Crete, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Thailand and New Zealand. Parker also enjoys the outdoors – going to the beach, body boarding, and hiking.
