Kamehameha Schools was founded by the will of Bernice Pauahi Bishop, the great-granddaughter of Kamehameha the Great.

Dr. Wai‘ale‘ale Sarsona was named vice president of Kamehameha Schools’ new Hi‘ialo Group which fosters the holistic development of Native Hawaiians as local and global leaders from early learning through adulthood.
Sarsona oversees KS’ 29 Hawaiian-focused preschools statewide and its Kealaiwikuamoʻo Division that supports Hawai‘i’s network of Native Hawaiian schools. She also guides Kamehameha’s educational policy and advocacy efforts.
