The lānai extension will replace the existing temporary tent space and provide more shelter in that area.

Construction on campus: William Charles Lunalilo Center lānai extension

Feb. 25, 2025

We’re excited to share that work on the extension of the lānai for the William Charles Lunalilo Center is now scheduled to commence. Crews from Nordic Construction have been onsite since February 18 and will be setting up a construction barricade and dust screens around the area where work will be taking place.

This is a reminder to students and staff to avoid the active construction area while work is ongoing. Be sure to utilize the walkways and remain aware of your surroundings when moving around that area. Lunalilo will be open and accessible throughout the duration of the construction, which is anticipated to last to the end of July 2025, given minimal hurdles like weather and connecting to infrastructure.

When completed, the new lānai will provide a larger, permanent covered space fronting Lunalilo, replacing the tent that is currently there.

The tamarind tree at the piko of our kula will remain in place where it is.

Here is a drawing of what the extension will look like for the space. It will be an independent structure.
