Kamehameha Schools announced today that Dustin Clevenger has been selected as the organization’s new director of Internal Audit.
Kamehameha’s Internal Audit department reports to and is accountable for assisting the Board of Trustees in the effective execution of their fiduciary responsibilities through independent, objective assurance and consulting activities designed to add value and to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of KS’ risk management, internal control and governance processes.
Clevenger, a member of the KS Kapālama class of 2000, brings a wealth of experience and a keen understanding of financial, operational and information technology processes and internal controls that assist with mitigating inherent business risks.
He replaces longtime KS director of Internal Audit Darrel Hoke, who was recently selected as the organization’s executive vice president of Administration.
“We were impressed with Dustin’s proven track record in working with a variety of large, highly complex organizations including Fortune 500 companies. That background will serve him well at Kamehameha Schools,” said Robert Nobriga, the chairman of the Kamehameha Schools Board of Trustees.
“Dustin is a great example of a successful Kamehameha Schools graduate who grew from humble Big Island roots to go on to a very notable career on the mainland. We are very happy to be able to welcome him home, and we know that he is committed and passionate about serving the legacy of our Princess Pauahi and the mission of Kamehameha Schools.”
Clevenger comes home to Kamehameha after most recently serving as the Internal Audit manager for James Hardie Industries PLC, where he was responsible for the planning, managing, and execution of financial, regulatory, compliance and operational audits.
He is a former manager with Grant Thornton LLP, a global audit and business advisory services company, and is a former Internal Audit manager with Experian, a global information services group with operations in 40 countries. He also spent five years with the accounting firm Deloitte & Touche LLP, where he was a senior consultant.
"I am very humbled and honored to join the Kamehameha Schools team,” Clevenger said.
“As a proud alumnus, I’m very appreciative of the opportunity Princess Pauahi gave me and countless others. I’m excited to return home and be able to give back to Kamehameha Schools and the communities it serves. I look forward to working with the Board of Trustees and executive team to continue to further and protect the mission and legacy of our beloved founder," he added.
“Our internal audit function is critical in guiding us toward effective and efficient operations and processes and in developing and monitoring our enterprise risk management. We look forward to working with Dustin as he assumes this crucial role,” said Kamehameha Schools CEO Jack Wong.
“As a graduate of Kamehameha, Dustin has a personal investment in giving back to his alma mater and helping us assure that we are operating as a high performing Native Hawaiian organization. Please join me in welcoming him into our Kamehameha Schools ‘ohana.”
Clevenger carries a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business. He is also a certified public accountant in California and Massachusetts.
He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, the Institute of Internal Auditors and the Information Systems Security Association.new
