Check out a sneak peek of the opening number for this years Hōʻike honoring Princess Ruth Keʻelikōlani.

Mele Pāleoleo: He Mele No Luka is written and performed by Papa ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi Makahiki VI. The sneak peek video was filmed by senior Kamakana Rodrigues.

Hōʻike takes place March 12 & 13, 2020. It is our kula’s first hula drama, and the moʻolelo will be told through hula, some modern dance, Hawaiian rap, some live art installations, implements along with the band and of course the voices of our haumāna in oli and mele. This year's Hōʻike is being spearheaded by ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi kumu Kalehua Simeona.

In the lead up to the show, kumu and haumāna are planning a series of different mediums to build insight and excitement into the moʻolelo as we prepare to honor this significant mana wahine, so critical to the existance of our kula. Keep a look out for more in the coming weeks, and make your plans to be in Koaiʻa in March!

Junior Ewalea Dameg and her papa ʻōlelo Makahiki VI kumu and peers present this sneak peek into the opening of Hōʻike 2020.
