“The lāhui thrives through its kānaka lokomaikaʻi,” Advanced Colloquial Hawaiian kumu Kalei Lyman shared in a message of thanks to high school students, faculty and staff.
Lyman’s Papa Kamaʻilio, Nāhiapokūhaʻoikeao, gathered over 400 ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi books over their two-week Kūhaʻoikeao Book Drive earlier this year.
The books will be donated to Hawaiian immersion students at Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo public charter school in Keaukaha.
Kumu Kalei shared, “Mahalo palena ʻole e nā haumāna, nā kumu, a me nā mea kākoʻo o kēia wahi kula. Ma o ko ʻoukou lokomaikaʻi, ua hōʻiliili ʻia mai nā puke he 400 a ʻoi aku no nā haumāna kaiapuni o Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo. Ua kāʻeo pono ka ʻumeke o nei lāhui hiwahiwa iā ʻoukou pākahi. Aloha nō!"
If anyone is still interested in donating books, please contact Kumu Kalei at kalyman@ksbe.edu, or call (808) 982-0695.
Over 400 books were collected that will now be donated to Hawaiian immersion students at Ka ʻUmeke Kāʻeo.
