August weather disturbance update #1

Aug. 11, 2026

Aloha mai kākou,

As we welcome back our haumāna, ʻohana, and kumu for the new school year, Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha would like to inform you that we are tracking a weather system in the Central Pacific.

According to the National Weather Service, the system could become a tropical depression or storm in the next few days as it moves toward the pae ʻāina. While it is still too early to determine the system’s long-term track, intensity, or potential impacts to Hawaiʻi, it does not currently present an immediate threat to the islands. Our K-12 campuses, preschools, and offices will therefore continue normal operations. We are closely monitoring forecasts from the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service and will provide timely updates if conditions change or any actions become necessary.

As a reminder, hurricane season continues through Nov. 30. We encourage all families to use this time to review their emergency plans, ensure emergency kits are fully stocked, and stay informed through trusted weather sources. Learn more about emergency preparedness at Ready.gov, the Hawaiʻi Emergency Management Agency, and county emergency management agencies statewide.

Mahalo for your commitment to the well-being of ka ʻohana Kamehameha.

Mālama pono.
