The Advent season is upon us and traditionally many churches will light a blue or purple candle to symbolize the faith elements of hope, peace, joy and love. This school year’s Advent devotional series begins on December 1, 2023 and will end on Christmas Eve.

Our island of Maui will never be the same. The fires have forever altered many lives and much of our landscape. Yet, through this tragedy we saw a tremendous outpouring of aloha from across the pae ʻāina and worldwide. The genuine aloha given brought a sense of peace during a time of turmoil and uncertainty. As we reflect on the birth of Christ, we are reminded of the peace He provides for all whose hope and trust is in Him. The prophet Isaiah reminds us “you will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.”
We may face many challenges and obstacles in life but with Ke Akua, we can overcome these times of difficulty and moe me ka maluhia lani, sleep in heavenly peace.
Moe Me Ka Maluhia – Kahu ‘Ōpio Keegan Ka’enaokalamakū Gantala - Ka Papa Makaloa, Class of 2024
Isaiah 26:3 says that everything we have accomplished is because of God. Why should we turn away from God during tough times when God is the reason for our accomplishments? Athletics helped me realize this. Being an athlete comes with failures and successes. I have learned that when competitions get hard, turning to God calms me down and helps me to focus. God is the reason I succeed. He is the reason I am who I am and He will continue to help me when life gets tough.
“Ka mea i kūpa’a kamana’o, e mālama ana ‘oe iā ia me ka malu loa”.
Be steadfast in God and let Him provide that perfect peace.
