Aloha mai kākou e nā haumāna o ke kula kiʻekiʻe -

As each and every one of us wait in hope for an update regarding the pandemic sweeping through our nation I wanted to stop by to inspire change and resilience within each and every one of you. 

Since the beginning of time, our Kanaka have been resilient and steadfast through the hardest times of our history. We have stood strong and persevered through the tumultuous times that have been thrown in our direction. But for me, as I sit at home thinking about what I want to leave with each and every one of you the message is clear. 

The message that portrayed through our Hō'ike last week for Ke'elikōlani, "Moku A'e Ka Pawa", was a story about kūpa'a….a story of great change or Hulihia. This Pandemic that we call "Covid-19" is merely a bump in the road to our future orientation and resilience as Kanaka. Like Ke'elikōlani, nothing will come easy for us. Working hard and dedicating not only our time but also our hearts to becoming the change we want to see.

It indeed is a scary time where we don't know what to do or how to go about our day to day lives but I can only hope that we keep ourselves to the standers Ke Ali'i Bernice Pauahi dreamt every one of us would be. To always be Pono and to continuously check our 'ano ensuring that we do not become complacent and unambitious.

As we transition to Distance learning my hope is for each and every one of you to become the best you could possibly be. Start giving 110% instead of 100%. Communication is key, work hard and always remain resilient. There will be times when this type of learning will be hard but promise me that each and every one of you will try your best to stay diligent and continue to exceed the expectations of our Kula. 

Let us not dwell on those aspects that bring our spirits down but instead remain KŪPA'A and remember that what is happening is for our own good. This is different, this is a time of uncertainty, this is scary, and this in some ways can take a toll on our hearts. But let us look to Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and let us lean NOT on your own understanding: In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths".
