Graduation Drive-through Celebration

Date: Sunday, May 24, 2020
Time: 9:00am-3:30pm

Located at Konia Field, seniors/families will be allowed onto campus during their designated time on graduation day to pick up their diploma, graduation articles and various makana. A live stream of the drive-through will be available via the KSK Graduation Website at: www.ksbe.edu/commencement/kapalama for any extended ‘ohana that wish to tune in to the event. Campus access for graduates will begin at 8:15am.

Guidelines:

• Seniors must enter campus through Main Gate only and bring their ID.
• Only (1) vehicle per graduate will be allowed.
• Proper casual dress code attire required. Attire should be in good taste, shirts and footwear required. Dress Whites, optional.
• If arriving in a truck, no persons in the bed of truck will be allowed while on campus.
• Upon entering campus main gate, graduates must clearly place the 11”x17” Name Placard on the car dashboard for easy identification of graduate name when entering Konia Circle (provided by KS in mailout).
• Please take a photo of your placard and save on your phone, in the event that you lose or forget your placard on day of event.
• Items will be exchanged through front passenger window of vehicle.
• All persons in vehicle must wear a protective mask. 
• All persons must adhere to the event safety expectations and protocols (enclosed).
• At no point will a student or family member be allowed outside of their car, while on campus. Only at the diploma station will the graduate be allowed out of the car to receive his/her diploma and packet. Mask must be worn. Mahalo for your understanding and cooperation.
• Only students and parent/official guardians may pick-up their graduation articles.
• If multiple graduates carpooling, it will be at the discretion of graduate families.
• All cars will be directed by campus security for traffic flow.
• Once on campus, cars will be directed through the various pick-up stations to receive their graduation articles and makana.
• Graduates must adhere to their designated times of arrival by last name to avoid traffic.
• If students/families are uncomfortable with participating, cannot make it on this day, have a fever, or are not feeling well on that day; please stay home. We will have alternate arrangements made at a later date. Please contact class advisor, Denny Ono (deono@ksbe.edu), to coordinate alternate arrangements.  

Drive-through Schedule:

Graduates will arrive to campus in waves and alphabetically by LAST NAME. To help with traffic and long lines, graduates must adhere to arriving anytime during their allotted timeframe below. 
Graduate Arrival Schedule by LAST NAME:
9:00am-10:00am: LETTERS A-C
10:00am-11:00am: LETTERS D-J
11:00am-12:00pm: LETTERS K-L
12:00pm-1:00pm: LETTERS M-Q
1:00pm-2:00pm: LETTERS R-T
2:00pm-3:30pm: LETTERS U-Z
*ALL SENIOR BOARDERS – May arrive anytime between 9:00am-11:00am

Drive-through Route:

First station will be at Pauahi Admin. Building. Coming up Bishop Drive cars will turn into the upper parking lot of Pauahi Admin. Building, pick up makana from Po’o Kula’s Office, then head out of the Diamond Head exit of the parking lot. Cars will proceed up Waonahele Road, and stop at ‘Akahi Dining Hall to pick up their blue satin lei. Then, to Konia Circle to pick up kīhei, diploma packet, and class swag-bag. Finally, cars will head back down Girls Road, onto Princess Drive and past Bishop Hall to pick up final makana from Alumni Relations. Lastly, all cars to exit out through Main Gate.  

Diploma Pick-up Station:

While in Konia Circle, only the graduate will be allowed to step out of the car – mask must be worn. Graduates family will continue around Konia circle and meet graduate at the mauka side of the field. As directed by volunteer kumu and upon exiting the car, graduate will give his/her graduate name-card to the announcer and will walk across the stage to receive diploma and packet. A professional photo will be taken while their name is announced. Graduate will return to car and continue on drive-through route.

Vehicle Information:

While on route, graduate must be on the passenger side of the vehicle to receive items. All individuals in the vehicle should have a mask in order to follow state guidelines. Vehicles used for drive-through MUST be passenger vehicles. Semi-trucks, trucks pulling trailers, flatbeds, busses, or anything similar is NOT allowed. With the high volume of vehicles and lengthy drive through route, please anticipate some traffic and delays. Your patience, cooperation and understanding is greatly appreciated in helping us celebrate our amazing Class of 2020.

Graduation Kīhei:

Upon further discussion, we have a change for the graduation kīhei distribution. Initially we were going to distribute kīhei on Sunday at the Drive Through Celebration. However, we will now be distributing them at a stop near Midkiff, during the Senior drop-off days, Thursday 5/21 and Friday 5/22. By doing it this way, it is our hope that families will be able to have a special moment at home on Sunday prior to coming to campus where they could tie their graduates kīhei should they choose to wear it over their dress whites for the Drive Through Celebration.

We also wanted to make this change due to the limited time of the event and safety precautions we are held to on the day of the celebration. Students (boarder and day) who may not be coming up on the Senior drop-off days, may pick up their kīhei at the Drive Through Celebration on 5/24. Boarders will have the opportunity to receive their kīhei from their dorm advisors when they come to campus to check out of their dorms. Any students who do not come to campus for either the drop-off or the celebration, the school will arrange for the kīhei to be shipped home, along with the other drive through articles.
