Kamehameha Schools gives Native Hawaiian students better opportunities, with academic and financial support, to attain college completion. KS-run workshops help families through the processes of gaining financial aid, from scholarships to federal aid.
With the application window open for both the ʻImi Naʻauao and Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi scholarships, Kamehameha Schools Financial Aid and Scholarship Services (FASS) and KS Community Engagement and Resources staff will hold a workshop on Saturday, December 3, to not only help families through the application process of those scholarships, but also to help with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The workshop will be held at the KS Community Learning Center at Nānākuli (CLCN) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with another one coming up on January 14.
The FAFSA application window opened earlier this year than in year’s past, in hopes of making for an easier process for families. Applicants are now able to use tax forms from the previous year, which would be the 2015 tax information for this year’s applications. Although FAFSA applications can be submitted until June 30, applications are first-come, first-serve. So applicants are encouraged to finish their FAFSA early.
Aligning with that window, KS also moved up the application window for Nā Hoʻokama a Pauahi scholarships from October 3, 2016, to February 17, 2017. The ʻImi Naʻauao graduate degree scholarships application window opened on November 15, 2016, and will run through January 31, 2017. Pauahi Foundation Scholarships will also be available, coming up from January 4-February 17, 2017.
For help on scholarship and FAFSA applications throughout the year, families can visit the KS Resource Centers. For locations and office hours, visit https://apps.ksbe.edu/resourcecenters/.
STRATEGIC PLAN 2020
SP2020 is a five-year strategic plan that will guide Kamehameha Schools from 2015 to 2020. The plan marks a starting point toward KS’ Vision 2040, which envisions success for all Native Hawaiian learners.
These workshops align with Goal 1 of SP2020 as KS aims to deliver world-class education to Native Hawaiian learners. This also aligns with Action 1 of Kamehameha’s Ten Actions for fiscal year 2016-2017, advancing as a world-class KS school system.
KS staff will be available to help with college scholarship and federal aid applications from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, December 3.
KS hosted a workshop in November at Midkiff Learning Center on the KS Kapālama campus.
Many showed up to the November 10 workshop on the KSK campus, including campus and non-campus families.
