Education is a process. Along the educational pathway, there are significant milestones that help to predict how a learner will fare in life. Drawing on research and expertise from multiple campuses and divisions, Kamehameha Schools has chosen six milestones that can serve as a catalyst for success in college, career, and leadership. Ultimately, our success as an organization hinges on our ability to help all Hawaiian learners reach these milestones and to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.
UPDATED MARCH 2019
Estimated results of our Education Pathway Milestones (EPMs) are displayed below. EPMs 2 to 5, which are based on Native Hawaiian students at KS and Hawaiʻi Department of Education schools, were recently updated to reflect new academic achievement tests for Grade 3 and 8, and improved alignment of measures criteria across both school systems.

1 Hawai‘i statewide data available for measuring “Native Hawaiian Learners” is limited. EPM 1 is an estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey. EPM 2-5 includes Kamehameha Schools (KS) students and Native Hawaiian (NH) students at the Hawai‘i Department of Education (HI-DOE) schools (data of NH students attending other private schools in Hawai‘i, or NH home schooled students not registered with the HI-DOE is not available).
2 Baseline results for EPM 6 will be available in 2019.
Measure Definitions:
EPM 1: Estimated percent of Native Hawaiian 3- and 4-years-olds in the state of Hawai‘i who enrolled in preschool (preschool enrollment is a proxy for kindergarten readiness, since no Hawai‘i statewide data on kindergarten readiness assessment is available).
EPM 2: Percent of KS students and NH students at HI-DOE schools in a 3rd grade cohort with spring reading scores who met reading proficiency.
EPM 3: Percent of KS students and NH students at HI-DOE schools in an 8th grade cohort with spring reading and math scores who met both the reading and math proficiency.
EPM 4: Percent of KS students and NH students at HI-DOE schools in an adjusted 9th grade cohort who graduated from high school within 4 years, and attained a composite score of 19/36 or higher on the ACT or the equivalent score on the SAT.
EPM 5: Percent of KS students in a high school graduating cohort and NH students at HI-DOE schools who are high school completers that completed a postsecondary degree or certificate within 6 years after high school graduation (includes all students regardless of postsecondary enrollment).
