While the difficult decision was made to suspend this year’s Song Contest, KS kumu and haumāna continue to stoke their creative fires to come up with an appropriate way to give the 100th Song Contest the honor it deserves. Details around this reimagined Song Contest presentation will be shared when they’re available.

In the meantime, Hawaii News Now will broadcast special programming celebrating 100 years of Song Contest on Friday, March 20, from 7-10 p.m. The three hour-long segments will: highlight Hōʻike throughout the years; explore this year’s theme, I Mau ke Aloha ʻĀina through a special Song Contest Pre-show; and Talk Story with McKenna Maduli as she explores the world of Song Contest – from its historic legacy to the social and cultural impact it has had on young Hawaiian leaders today.

                        Relive favorite moments from the crowd-pleasing Hōʻike presentation from over the years.

8-9 p.m.           I Mau ke Aloha ʻĀina: 100 Years of Song Contest

                       Take a tour behind the scenes as haumāna, kumu and members of the lāhui discuss the process of haku mele and how this year’s competition transcends musical notes and lyrics.

9-10 p.m.         Talk Story with McKenna Maduli: 100 Years of Song Contest
