Once again, we will be hosting “Pauahi Week” here at our Hawai‘i Campus. “Pauahi Week” is scheduled for October 15th-18th, where we remember and honor our benefactor, Ke Ali‘i Bernice Pauahi Bishop, for her vision, kindness and generosity.

Pauahi passed away due to breast cancer on October 16, 1884. So we take this week especially to raise awareness and remind our community of the steps that can be taken for early detection, prevention, and hopefully one day, eradication of the disease. We also use this week to honor our founder, by helping to raise funds for the Pauahi Foundation, furthering her vision by supporting our lāhui with scholarship funds to continue their education.

Special theme days include -

  • Tuesday, 10/15: Wear Red like Pauahi’s favorite pua, the red rose
  • Wednesday, 10/16: Blue and White
  • Thursday, 10/17: Pink for Pauahi
  • Friday, 10/18: Class and School pride as we Walk for Pauahi

To participate in the special dress days, staff and students have purchased special Pauahi themed pink wristbands with all proceeds will be donated to the Pauahi Foundation. And throughout the week, kula will hold their Pennies For Pauahi collection, raising funds for the Pauahi Foundation.

Our week will conclude by coming together as a kula for the Walk for Pauahi on Friday, a special haumāna-led tradition started on our campus, which this year will be a tri-campus event. The afternoon will be filled with special opportunities for students to connect with one another across grade levels over lunch and then we all will come together as one kula with fun activities and taking a moment to walk for Pauahi.

I Mua Kamehameha! Mahalo Pauahi!
