Sending a huge hoʻomaikaʻi to junior Luluka Brown-Spielman, whose beautiful and moving piece, Man and Ancestor, was selected as the overall winner for Hawaiʻi’s Second Congressional District in this year’s Congressional Art Competition.
Luluka’s artwork will make its way to Washington D.C., where it will be on display for the next 11 months in the Cannon Tunnel at the U.S. Capitol Building.
“Luluka has had a pretty stellar year with her arts. This is her second juried show that she has been accepted into this year! The first was at Kahilu Theatre/Gallery in Waimea," shared KS Hawaiʻi art kumu Carl Pao.
“So joyous for all of her hard work and dedication to recognized both locally, and now, D.C.!”
Mahalo nui loa to Congressman Kai Kahele and his office for hosting this competition for the Second Congressional District and providing this opportunity to recognize and celebrate these talented youth artists. If you happen to be visiting the Capitol over the next year, keep a look out for Luluka's piece in D.C.
Hulō!!!
