Representatives from Kamehameha Schools’ community education, land asset management, ‘āina engagement and Ko‘olau Region teams joined community partners and supporters in a cleansing ceremony to officially open Hale ‘O Māmalu in the vibrant ahupua‘a of Punalu‘u on Friday, Feb. 9.

The structure, which is named after the nearby bay and means to shade or protect and bring together, will serve as a gathering place for the community as KS works with partners in the community to address key issues affecting the lāhui.

Hale ‘O Māmalu is situated at the entrance to Punalu‘u Ahupua‘a Farms (53-270 Kamehameha Hwy.), and has already hosted community-building workshops and the popular Board & Stone Class.

“This community space will help us work together in this journey, through which we’re enlightened every day,” said KS Ko‘olau Regional Director Jamee Miller. “We’re here to empower our people, and do so hand in hand.”
