Kamehameha Schools has launched a new podcast that highlights innovative approaches to education and community-building through a Native Hawaiian lens: Ka Piko Podcast.

The podcast, which is hosted by KS Communications Specialist Kyle Galdeira, is currently available to stream and download through multiple podcast and music platforms including Spotify, Stitcher and Google Play Music. It will soon be available on www.ksbe.edu as well as additional music and podcast streaming sites.

In the pilot episode of Ka Piko Podcast, which listeners helped to name, KS Kapālama High School science kumu Chris Blake discusses some of his innovative approaches to teaching. His tactics are utilized throughout his newly formed science elective class “Papa Kilo Hōkū,” which incorporates traditional Hawaiian practices of celestial navigation and voyaging.

In addition to education, the podcast will also focus on developing leaders through multiple platforms including music, sports and entertainment. According to Edison Research, 67 million Americans listen to podcasts every month.
