KS Haumāna Artworks To Be Exhibited at the Hui No'eau Visual Arts Center

Sept. 4, 2018

This year Kamehameha Kula Waena Art haumāna began the year learning about our precious mea ola of Maui. The 8th-grade Mixed Media class was fortunate enough to participate in a hike at the Waikamoi Preserve where they were able to experience first-hand the beauty and preciousness of a Native Hawaiian rainforest.

Each student chose a species of wildlife native to Maui and created a work of art for submission to the Mālama Wao Akua art exhibit hosted by the Hui Noʻeau and East Maui Watershed Partnership. This year, nine of our middle school haumāna, one of our high school haumāna (Mākena Guzman) and two of our faculty (Lori Winterbottom-Guntzel and Kekaula Campbell) were selected for the show!

The Kula Waena students selected were:

  • Leimomi Amadeo
  • Kaimana Brittain
  • Dawson Dudoit
  • Kira Gomez
  • Victoria Monkres
  • Cami Nakagawa
  • Kailani Pascua
  • Bennett Takahama
  • Mālie Vickers

Their artwork will be exhibited at the Hui Noʻeau Visual Arts Center from September 14-November 9th. All are welcome to attend the opening reception and awards ceremony on Friday, September 9th from 5pm-8pm at the Hui Noʻeau.

Photos of their artwork and more information about the Mālama Wao Akua show can be found at www.malamawaoakua.org
