Kobe Lilio, a senior at Kamehameha Schools Maui, is set to swim into summer after receiving the prestigious Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation Ambassador of Aloha Scholarship.

A competitive swimmer for the past 11 years, Lilio has also worked as a learn-to-swim teacher for the past six years. Swimming has taught him to persevere through difficult times, such as the untimely passing of his father and several uncles due to cancer.

For his Senior Project, Lilio learned to crochet beanies and lap blankets, which he gifted to more than two dozen cancer patients in his community. The student-athlete’s future plans include attending college to pursue a career in either electrical engineering or computer science with the hopes of returning to Hawai‘i to continue his career.
