Students succeed in Air Riflery, Bowling BIIF Championships

The first BIIF titles of the Fall Sports season were given out this past Saturday. We want to congratulate and celebrate our student-athletes on their achievements!

Girls Air Riflery team took 1st place overall, with senior Amy Gushiken placing 3rd and sophomore Danica-Jason Fujimoto placing 5th. Sophomore Isaac Keola Fukunaga was the top shooter on the boys side taking the gold, with junior Kainalu Pakani placing 2nd.

In Bowling, our Girls team had already won team gold, but senior Emily Hora added another with a 1st place finish in the individual championships, with junior Jaydence Fernandez-Young placing 2nd, and sophomore Olivia Kinoshita placing 4th. For the boys, juniors Isaac Shigematsu won 2nd and Kingston Akuna won 4th.

Good luck to all of these athletes as they compete in HHSAA State Tournaments next week (Air Riflery on Tuesday 10/31, Bowling on Wednesday 11/1 – Thursday 11/2).

The rest of the Fall sports will see BIIF championship action this week with the following games taking place:

  • Cheerleading - Wednesday, 10/25 starting at 5 p.m. at Keaʻau High School
  • Girls Volleyball - BIIF Semifinals vs. Keaʻau - Thursday, 10/26 starting at 6 p.m. in Koaiʻa Gym 
  • Footabll - BIIF DII Championship Game vs. HPA - Friday, 10/27 starting at 5 p.m. in Paiʻea Stadium
  • Girls Volleyball - BIIF DI Championship vs. Hilo/Waiākea winner - Saturday, 10/28 starting after the DII Championship around 6:30 p.m. in Koaiʻa Gym

A reminder for fans needing tickets, that purchases should be made on the BIIF's GoFan page for all BIIF Championship Tournaments. 

All BIIF Semi-Finals and Championship games require all spectators to pay for admission with the exception of high school student(s) with a BIIF Student Activity Card. BIIF Student Activity Cards are available for purchase at the Athletic Office located mauka side of Koai’a Gym. BIIF Cards are $20.00 and we accept CASH only.

For individual tickets, we encourage spectators to purchase their tickets online ahead of time as these events will be cash less.





Hoʻomaikaʻi to the Girls Air Riflery team for winning gold.


The Girls Bowling team repeated as BIIF champions and were awarded after team play finished at the end of last month.


Sophomore Isaac Keola Fukunaga was the top boys scorer in air riflery and earned gold.


Senior Emily Hora won 1st place in the girls individual bowling tournament.


Senior Amy Gushiken was our top girls shooter, earning 3rd place individual honors.


Junior Isaac Shigematsu was our top boys bowling finisher, placing 2nd in the individual tournament.
