Learning how to play the ukulele, especially with no musical experience, can be a bit difficult. Mr. Lum Ho planned an interactive set of curricula designed to get students familiar with the basic beginning tools. Students learn the essential parts and basic notes using a simple “FSF” (fret, string, finger) system. His lesson includes how to hold, how to properly place your fingers and how to strum an ukulele.

Before actually picking up an ukulele, students from the third grade were put in to groups to complete a scavenger hunt with some fun trivia questions including watching a short video clip on Jake Shimabukuro and correct finger placements. It was a great way to get them excited to strum!
