ALOHA!! He makahiki kula hou kēia. Nui ka hauʻoli o nā keiki e aʻo i nā mea Hawaiʻi. It is a new school year and the haumana have shown so much joy in learning about their Hawaiian Language and Culture. This trimester our Papa Hawaiʻi are learning about our inoa (Names), themes Kai/ʻĀina/Kanaka (Ocean/Land/Hawaiian People), nā ʻōlelo noʻeau (Hawaiian Proverbs), nā huaʻōlelo naʻau (feeling words), nā kaunoʻo (learning centers), nā moʻokiʻina (routines) and protocols.

I look forward to the work that we will be doing to build a māla Hawaiʻi (a Hawaiian Garden) this year. Planting native meakanu (plants) will help us to be more pili (close) with our ʻāina and teach us kuleana (responsibility). As the year takes off nui koʻu pīhoihoi (I am so excited) to see how our Papa Hawaiʻi will learn and grow to better mālama our piko (the core of what makes us who we are) and to be better kanaka aloha ʻāina.

This year we are hoping to add more box gardenʻs to our māla and kanu (grow) kalo, ʻuala, ulu, lāʻī and other lei making pua trees. Evetually we hope that our work will feed into our Kapikohanaiakamālama garden below the elementary campus.
