Kahu Kaunaloa Boshard KSK’77 (from left), KS cultural consultant Hauʻoli Akaka, Kahu Kanani Franco KSK’91 and Kahu Manu Naeʻole KSK’96 gather to sing their rendition of “ʻEkolu Mea Nui.”
Nā Hīmeni Kalikiano is a monthly offering of mele and pule led by nā kahu of Ke Kula ʻo Kamehameha. These familiar songs and heartfelt prayers help us grow our relationship with Ke Akua, grounding our daily lives in love, service and spiritual discipline.
The Hawaiian hīmeni “ʻEkolu Mea Nui” is derived from the scripture in 1 Corinthians 13:13. This passage reminds us that aloha is the greatest of all qualities and reflects the very nature of God. As we celebrate our Hawaiian language, this pule asks Ke Akua to guide our speech, so that we speak with aloha and reflect the love of Christ.
E Iehova Hemolele,
O Jehovah, the Holy One
Ke Ali’i o nā ali’i,
King of kings
Ka Haku o nā haku,
Lord of lords
Ke ho’omaikaʻi a mililani aku nei mākou iā ‘Oe,
We thank and give praise to Thee
E ‘oluʻolu, e kau mai i Kou ‘Uhane Hemolele ma luna o mākou,
We ask for Your Holy Spirit to be upon us
I hiki iā mākou ke ola me ke aloha.
That we may live our lives with aloha.
Nau nō e alakaʻi i kā makou ‘ōlelo ʻana ma nā wahi a pau a mākou e hele ai,
Guide us in our speech, so that wherever we may go,
i hiki nā poʻe apau ke ‘ike I Kou aloha me Kou lokomaika’i.
Your love and generosity will be known to all mankind.
Ke noi aku nei mākou iā ‘Oe I kēia mau mea
We ask these things
Ma ka inoa ʻo Iesū Kristo, ko mākou Mōhai Aloha, ‘Āmene
In Jesus’ name, The One who gave His life for us, ‘Āmene
