Have a service project that you or your organization wants to complete but doesn't have the manpower to do so? Have a service agency or organization in mind that deserves helping hands?
On Wednesday, Oct. 25, Kamehameha Kapālama will be mobilizing 450 high school seniors to multiple service agencies throughout the island as part of its annual "Senior Service Day."
Confirmed community partnerships (updated as of 8/22) thus far include:
- Hawai‘i Nature Center
- DLNR State Parks (Kahana Valley)
- Lyon Arboretum
- Mālama Loko Ea Fishpond
- Keiki O Ka ‘Āina Family Learning Center
- UH Hawaiian Studies (Kānewai / Punalu‘u Lo‘i)
- Livable Hawai‘i Kai Hui (Hāwea Heiau Complex and Keawāwa Wetland)
- Waikalua Loko I‘a Fishpond
- Ho‘ōla Hou Iā Kalauao
- H3 Native Hawaiian Garden
- Kealahou West O‘ahu (Onelau‘ena & Onemalu Homeless Shelters)
For each organization, KSK can either provide 20 or 40 students (accompanied by three to five teachers), depending on each organizationʻs needs. Students are able to assist each service project from about 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
There are no strings attached to this service opportunity. KSK will even provide lunch for the organizations staff/volunteers who work with us as a token of appreciation.

New service requests will be put on a waiting list if any confirmed requests do not materialize. KS Kapālama will contact the organization if the service request has been selected. Please understand that not all requests will be selected.

Seniors from SSD 2014 partnered with DLNR and the ‘Ohana of Kā‘ena Point to educate off-roaders and locals about the dangers of motor vehicles and pallet fires. Students cleaned Mākua Valley of nails, replanted native naupaka that was dug up from careless off-roaders, and made signs to remind visitors and kama‘āina about the fragile - and sacred - ecosystems that exist at Kā‘ena.
